Anaheim Community


Anaheim is located 28 miles south of Los Angeles and 90 miles north of San Diego.   Anaheim is considered one of the most technologically advanced areas in the nation.  Anaheim's population, according to the 2000 Census, is 328,014.  That is an increase of over 20% from the last decade.  Anaheim is now the 10th largest city in California and is second only to Santa Ana in Orange County.

There are seven school districts that serve Anaheim's 46 elementary, nine junior high and 14 high schools.  There are also dozens of vocational schools as well as colleges and universities in the Orange County area.


Anaheim History


Anaheim's history began in 1857 when German farmers built a small 200 acre colony in this area.  The Germans farmers combined the word Ana from the Santa Ana river and heim, meaning home in German, to create Anaheim or home by the river.  The first oranges grown in Orange County were from Anaheim.  The first settlers here were not just farmers, they were writers, artists, and musicians.

There are approximately 100,000 housing units in Anaheim.  The median home value is $218,000 according to last recorded statistic in 1997.


Anaheim Lifestyle


The city of Anaheim employs over 177,000 workers.  The average unemployment rate here is 3.4%, comparable to the rest of the county. The median income in Anaheim is $42,500.  Among Anaheim's largest employers are the Disney Company, Kaiser Permanente Health Care, and Boeing North America.

There are tons of things to do and see in the city of Anaheim.  The Anaheim Convention Center is the largest of its kind on the West coast.  Anaheim is also famous for Disneyland Theme Park, Knotts Berry Farm, the Mighty Ducks, and the world champion Anaheim Angels.  Anaheim residents can also enjoy fine dining, golf, and public parks.


Anaheim Transportation


Anaheim is conveniently located near all of Orange County's major freeways.  The 5 FWY connects Anaheim to North and South Orange County.  The 55 FWY, 91 FWY, and 57 FWY provide easy commute to the coastal areas as well as the inland.  Anaheim is also serviced by Amtrak and the Metrolink for easy commuting.  Air travelers can use John Wayne Air Port which is only a 15 minutes drive from Anaheim.


Anaheim Weather


Anaheim enjoys a Mediterranean climate, with an average temperature of 70 degrees and only 9.8 inches of rain per year.  It never snows in Anaheim and humidity is low during summer time.
